Class 7 IMO Exam – Participation in the Olympic Grade 2 exam at the national and international level results in the academic performance of the students and this exam is considered to be the most valuable. Grades 1 to 12 of the schools where students complete their education in the country are part of the IMO Level 1 exam. Students in grades 1 and 2 do not have to take the 2nd level examination but are placed in the 1st level of the IMO on the basis of their performance. Students who qualify at least through good performance at all levels of the first exam will be shortlisted for Level 2.
Students in grades 1-12 who wish to assess their academic level in mathematics can also apply to the IMO. The top 5% of pupils in each class taking the first level exam, the top 25% of ranking holders, the top of the zones and classes in the participating schools and 10% of pupils taking the exam achieving more than 50% of the qualification marks. Grades 1 – 12 are considered eligible to participate in SOF IMO 2021-2022 if at least 10 students from each school are selected.
Participants each year receive medals and honourable mentions at the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad (Olimpiada Brasileira de Matematica) before the IMO and after a series of tests at IMO-like level the best students are invited to join the Brazilian team that goes to the IMO. After the camp examinations, 18 pupils from each branch of the country are selected to take part in the Thai Mathematical Olympics. The best Olympian Matematik Kembangsaan (OMK) (National Mathematical Olympiad) will be selected for the following training camp, and the final IMO representative based on the performances of the students at the camps will be selected.
